Payroll Manager, Wakefield

We are currently seeking a Payroll Manager, supporting 12+ states, in our Corporate offices Wakefield, MA. This role will oversee accurate and timely payroll processing including accounting, reconciliation, analysis, and compliance. Our ideal candidate is detailed oriented, analytical and methodical, with experience in payroll & system administration and deep knowledge of payroll regulations (multi-state). The payroll manager will be responsible for ensuring the swift and accurate completion of a bi-monthly payroll processing cycle and providing excellent customer service to all our employees.


  • Ensure bi-monthly payroll expenses and taxes are paid correctly and on time using our payroll system
  • Remains up to date on the latest laws and legislation  (on the local, state, and federal levels)
  • Review employee data changes for new hires, rehires, terminations, status changes, rate changes, leave of absences, and other payroll inputs
  • Manage processing, configuration, and reconciliation of all payroll data to our external payroll or financial systems
  • Reports on taxes, deductions, summaries of earnings, leave, disability, nontaxable wages, and more
  • Stay informed and manage the filing of all payroll legal requirements for taxes, audits, and other reporting
  • Coordinates year-end W-2 processing for 12+ states
  • Prepares payroll related financial reports as requested
  • Develops and communicates policies and procedures for proper payment of staff
  • Ensures accurate processing of all garnishment orders
  • Prepares statistical reports on employee pay, commissions and bonuses, vacation, sick time, disability and workers compensation leave, and taxes/withholdings, etc.
  • Reviews off-cycle checks and/or on demand checks for terminating employees, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • College Degree Required (Bachelor or Associate)
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credentials (preferred)
  • Significant payroll experience in organization size of at least 500+ employees, with multi-state locations
  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience
  • Experience with full scope of Payroll Time & Attendance software
  • Understanding of federal, state and local; hourly and salaried timekeeping rules/regulations, related to overtime and shift differentials
  • Multi-state payroll experience, a must
  • Working knowledge of relevant federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to convey complex information in clear and concise manner
  • Ability to work in an environment with competing priorities
